The Expendables 2 Film Analysis

The expendables 2:

What genre indicators are there?

In the opening scene we are able to work out that it is going to be an action film because straight away they are in a war zone and there is a fight happening and the characters and travelling around on army tanks.

What questions are the audience encouraged to ask themselves about the character/ narrative?

The audience are encouraged to ask themselves why they are all fighting and what is going on as it goes straight into the war from the very beginning of the film. The cameras focus on the same four characters which makes the audience wonder if they are the main characters in the film or if something will happen to them.

How is music or ambient sound used and what mood is created?

The music they have used in the opening scene is dramatic and causes tension whilst the fight is happening, this makes the audience on edge whilst the fight is happening because they don’t know what is about to happen.

What camera shots are used and what is the effect of appeal?

One of the camera shots that is used in the opening scene is a wide shot of the war zone so that the audience can see that it is a war zone and they can see that a lot is happening at once. They also use a close up on one of the characters faces so the audience can see the concentration on his face and the determination to win the war/ fight and to protect the rest of the people on his team.
